20 Sep, 2005

Minister for science and technology Chaudhry Nouraiz Shakoor Khan on Monday said steps are being taken to establish strong linkage between commercial and research institutes to benefit the common man. He was addressing the award distribution ceremony of Pakistan Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (PCSIR) here.
The minister said there was exceptional development in the science and technology sector in Pakistan during the last few years but regretted benefits of this technological boom could not reached the common man mainly because of missing link between industry and research institutes.
The government, he said, is trying to strengthen this linkage through such exhibitions and symposiums. Moreover, he said the government has taken a number of substantial and concrete measures for the promotion of science and technology in the country.
Earlier, addressing on the occasion, PCSIR chairman Dr Anwarul Haq said more than 1.8 million people visited the fourth successive exhibition of PCSIR, which was held at Wah from August 20 to September 11. He further said another such exhibition would be held from November 28 at the National Ayub Park, Rawalpindi.
Besides, another one is scheduled in Bahrain from February next year and one each in Dubai and Jakarta are in the pipeline.
"We wanted to provide necessary skills and technology to as many people as possible so that the technology could be developed indigenously," he said.
He said the technology for making incinerators has already been handed over by the PCSIR to Strongman industry and it would be developed indigenously now.
The chairman said the PCSIR laboratories are being centralised to minimise chances of fake certification and warned that those found involved would be dealt strictly.
Later, Nouraiz Shakoor, Dr Anwarul Haq, and the MoST secretary distributed awards among those who participated in the exhibition.
Mr Nazar Hussain Director, M/s Polly Restaurant got the best food stall award while best sale award was conferred on Muhammad Zaeem Khan, director, M/s Shalimar Electro Palace, Wah Cantt.
