Anti-Car Lifting Cell (ACLC) of Capital City Police Karachi, busted an inter-provincial car-lifting gang along with stolen vehicles. ACLC (Operations) Superintendent Saqib Ismail stated this at a news conference here on Wednesday. The gang was exploiting jobless youths from rural areas of the country, he added.
On a tip-off police arrested four members of the gang and recovered four cars, eight motorcycles, a pistol, five bullets and a wireless telephone from the two hideouts during raids. Three members of the gang, including chief suspect Khalid Pathan, were still at large, he said.
"The group used to dismantle stolen or snatched motorcycles into parts and then pack them in wooden boxes for smuggling, he said.
Police found number-plates of eight stolen motorcycles, considered to be disposed of by the gang. One of the recovered motorcycles was packed in a wooden case.
The gang was involved in theft and snatching of vehicles from Karachi and smuggled stolen vehicles parts to Gilgit and Balochistan.
Karachi police was in contact with Balochistan and Gilgit police to arrest other three suspects.
Accused Zahid Gilgiti alias doctor was previously employed by Fidai Hospital, F. B. Area Karachi, he added.
