22 Sep, 2005

The masses have condemned increase in the fare of public transport plying on Islamabad-Rawalpindi, Taxila-Wah-Hasan Abdal, Islamabad-Rawat and other routes of adjoining areas as well as in twin cities of Islamabad and Rawalpindi.
"The Government increases petroleum products at the rate of Rs 02 per litre, but transporters increase fare manifold, commuters travelling in public transport told PPI in a survey.
The transporters have increased the fare ranging from Rs 15 to Rs 20 on various routes. Unjust increase in fare on many routes led to quarrels between transporters and commuters.
The concerned authorities despite of being complained about the malpractice have not taken any notice.
Meanwhile commuters have threatened to hold a protest demonstration and block the road as protest against the unjust rise in public transport fare.
