Operation against land mafia starts

22 Sep, 2005

The anti-encroachment cell of City District Government Karachi has started an operation to eject land mafia from plots of various sizes allotted to people in Block-10, Gulistan-e-Jauhar.
These plots of 240, 400 and 600 sq. yds. were allotted to people in Scheme-36 through ballot or auction. These properties worth millions of rupees were occupied by land mafia and occupants had constructed katcha and pucca houses thereon.
The allottees were running from pillar to post for getting possession of their plots for the last many years.
The Incharge Anti-Encroachment District Officer Iqbal Qureshi said that operation has been started on the directive of DCO Fazlur Rehman and EDO Revenue Hashim Raza and so far 15 acres of land has been cleared of encroachments.
The DCO and EDO revenue have advised the affected allottees to get back possession of plots freed from encroachers, get a boundary wail constructed, deploy chowkidar and protect their plot to save them from reoccupation.
Meanwhile area police have also been directed to maintain watch on vacant pots and mafia elements so that encroachment does not appear in future.
