Action against hoarding, overcharging planned

The legal action under Profiteering and Hoarding Ordinance and Amendment in Pure Food Ordinance 1960 came under consideration at a meeting held under the chairmanship of Chief Secretary Fazlur Rehman here on Wednesday.
In the meeting stress was laid on steps for maintaining price stability in respect of milk, meat, commodities, vegetables, fruits and other essential items under liaison with concerned merchants associations.
In this regard, DCO Karachi Fazlur Rehman and EDO Enterprise, Raisuddin Paracha assured of taking effective measures in co-ordination with concerned associations.
In the meeting, Secretary Local Government, Ishaq Lashari was appointed as focal person for amendments in the related Ordinances.
The Chief Secretary directed the EDO Enterprise to push ahead action in this regard in co-operation with secretary Local Government so that amended Ordinances in relation to profiteering and hoarding could be issued before the start of Ramazan-ul-Mubarak.
He asked the Law Department to approach various departments for required legislation, amendments and clarifications.
The meeting was attended by Secretary Agriculture Nazar Hussain Mahar, Secretary Industries Nasar Hayat, Secretary Health Naushad Shaikh, DCO Fazlur Rehman, CCPPO Karachi, Additional Secretary Home, ADIG (Operation) and Deputy Secretary Law.
