The Lahore High Court (LHC), while accepting the appeal of Malik Ashraf Awan, an activist of defunct religious organisation, has directed the government to release him.
The applicant had challenged his detention orders issued by Secretary Home Department on July 27 for three months. The applicant had approached the Lahore High Court but court rejected his application. He again approached the court through an intra court appeal and got relief.
Earlier, the law officer informed the court that the petitioner was vice-president of a defunct sectarian organisation and his activities were doubtful in the eyes of law enforcing agencies. He said that his detention orders were issued only in consideration of law and order situation.
The law officer replied in negative when court asked him about registration of any criminal case against the applicant. The court therefore, allowed the appeal and directed the government to release him.
