Third phase local bodies' polls: opposition to strengthen cooperation

23 Sep, 2005

Opposition parties would cooperate more and fight more vigorously in the third round of Local Body Election, and would gain more successes than before.
Mohammad Pervaiz Malik, PML-N Central Secretary Finance and MNA expressed these views, while addressing the candidates for Faisal Town and District Nazim here on Thursday.
He said that besides ARD, seat-to-seat adjustment has also been finalised with Muttahida Majlis-i-Amal (MMA) and this kind of adjustment was also being finalised in other districts as well. "It was courageous that the opposition-backed candidates were sacrificing by withdrawing themselves in favour of the most suitable candidate and it was being maintained that there would be no confrontation among them.
On the other hand there were more than one government-backed candidate for the same seat and if there be no rigging the opposition parties would win majority of seats," he added.
According to him, the results were changed in the second phase of LB polls and one of the reasons was that the polling agents did not receive the results from presiding officers or they were not allowed to receive the results. But it will not be allowed again in the third and last phase of LB election.
