Musharraf striving for strong Pakistan: Altaf

27 Sep, 2005

Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) chief Altaf Hussain said President General Pervez Musharraf is striving to make Pakistan powerful while opposition parties are just trying the opposite.
In a telephonic address from London to MQM's newly elected nazims and other party leaders and members here on Monday, he said had Benazir Bhutto or Nawaz Sharif been in power, they would apply same policies in the event of 9/11 incident as was done by President Musharraf.
Altaf Hussain said Pakistan is passing through a crucial time and alleged opposition parties, instead of joining hands with the President, are busy in spreading disunity in the nation.
He said the MQM was maligned under a pre-planned conspiracy and propaganda to spread hatred among Punjabis and they were misinformed about the facts. The MQM chief alleged both Nawaz Sharif and Benazir Bhutto regimes had increased problems for the poor.
