Alliance for the Restoration of Democracy (ARD) Chairman Makhdoom Amin Fahim on Tuesday said that the government should be run as per the 1973 Constitution and real democracy should be restored in the country.
He was speaking on the second death anniversary of Nawabzada Nasrullah Khan at Hamdard Centre here.
Talking about presidential system, he said that the present legislative assembly could not make it possible, as it was not the constituent assembly in nature.
He said that it was the single agenda of the All Parties Conference (APC) adopted with consensus that democracy should return and dictatorship should end.
Denying rumours of his links with the government, Fahim said that whenever the opposition started to get united, the government created issues to divide them.
He announced that from now on, there would be no hidden deals, and whatever was decided by the opposition, would be in open.
Criticising the former military leadership, he said, one general gave rivers to India, the other divided the country and the third created problems in the name of Islam.
He said social and economic changes were rapidly taking place in the world and with Bush's tenure ending in 2008, he would advice General Musharraf to learn a lesson from the fate of previous generals, he added.
Later, while talking to newsmen the ARD leader said that the alliance would be organised at the district level.
He said the alliance would start its meet-the-people campaign during Ramazan.
Jamaat-i-Islami Amir Qazi Hussain Ahmad said that a clear declaration by the opposition parties that Musharraf should abdicate his both posts had been made in the All Parties Conference (APC).
Criticising relations with Israel, he said, they had entered in occupied Srinagar to support Indians against struggling Kashmiris.
While talking about the masses' attitude towards politicians, Qazi said they had been dejected by their attitude. He announced that the ARD would hold five public meetings at the country level in near future.
Lieutenant General Hameed Gul (Retd) while appreciating the services of late Nawabzada Nasrullah said that during late 80's, he discussed Afghanistan, Kashmir, nuclear, Islamisation and 58-2B issues with the then leader.
Nawabzada, who was being seriously considered for president post then, failed to budge on 58-2B, saying that he did not agree on it as he had always struggled for democracy and the issue would negate his life long struggle, he said.
Iqbal Zaffar Jhaggra, Jehangir Badr, Memoona Hashmi, Pakistan Tehrik-i-Insaf (TI) leader Admiral Javaid Iqbal (Retd) and others while praising the role of late Nawabzada Nasrullah for upholding cause of democracy, vowed to promote his mission.
