Munir Akram, Annan discuss UN-related issues

28 Sep, 2005

Pakistan's UN Ambassador Munir Akram discussed with the Secretary General Kofi Annan on Monday afternoon follow up steps for implementation of the UN summit's outcome.
Officials said during 43-minute meeting, they exchanged views on all major issues such as development, management reforms, Peace Building Commission, Human Rights Council and Security Council's expansion.
Munir Akram apprised the secretary-general of Pakistan's thinking about those issues, and Kofi Annan in turn shared his thoughts with the ambassador. In that context, wider consultations will take place to develop an agreed approach on the implementation process.
Pakistan is working actively to develop a framework for the implementation of decisions on development goals set forth in the outcome document, the ambassador pointed out. Similarly, Pakistan is also co-operating "actively and constructively" in carrying out reforms.
"We regard the outcome document the beginning of the process not the end of the process and the secretary-general agrees," Ambassador Akram told reporters afterwards.
