Punjab government has directed all the district co-ordination officers (DCOs) to take appropriate measures for keeping the prices of essential commodities at reasonable level during the holy month of Ramazan.
While addressing a meeting of Punjab Prices and Supplies Board here on Tuesday, Secretary Industries Javaid Majeed said government would not allow anybody to increase prices of essential commodities during the holy month. He said the monitoring teams constituted by the district governments would regularly visit markets to ensure the quality of essential commodities.
The meeting was informed that complaints pertaining to adulteration in essential commodities were on the rise in Southern Punjab. It was noted no significant decrease in mutton prices was observed despite import of animals from India.
The meeting was further informed that wheat flour prices were being increased in various cities. It also decided to arrange "Itwar Bazaar" and "Sastay Bazar" during Ramazan.
