Harmony vital for finalising NFC award: Elahi

01 Oct, 2005

Construction of all major dams was in the interest of the whole country and was necessary for utilising the water which otherwise goes waste. However, harmony between all provinces was of paramount importance for the resolution of all issues, including National Finance Commission (NFC) Award.
Punjab Chief Minister Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi expressed these views while responding a question on Kalabagh Dam to a 12-member delegation of journalists from NWFP here on Friday. He was of the view that frequent inter-provincial visits of journalists, writers and intellectuals should be arranged for benefiting from each other's experiences.
To a question, the CM said he would issue necessary instructions to administration to make proper arrangements for checking at Attock for convenience of passengers. He also apprised delegation about the measures being taken by the Punjab government for welfare of the journalist community.
He said, "The Punjab government has close contacts with all provinces including NWFP and he also consults Chief Ministers of other provinces on matters of common interests. He said delegations of journalists, artists and writers would also be sent to NWFP and he would himself undertake a visit to NWFP after the local bodies' elections."
The delegation highly appreciated setting up of journalist colonies in Punjab and said journalists of the whole country deeply acknowledge that gesture of Chief Minister for allotment of plots to journalists without any favour or discrimination.
