BenQ gives Siemens mobile workers no job guarantee

02 Oct, 2005

The head of Taiwan's BenQ has given no job guarantee to employees at Siemens' mobile-phones unit, which it has bought from the German company, Welt am Sonntag newspaper reported.
BenQ is taking on 6,000 Siemens employees - half of them in Germany, where many have existing job guarantees until mid-2006 - along with all of Siemens's development and manufacturing sites in Manaus, Brazil and Kamp-Lintfort, Germany. The headquarters are remaining in Munich.
"There can't be a plan for the time after mid-2006 yet," the paper quoted K.Y. Lee saying in a preview of its Sunday edition. "What is clear is that changes are necessary."
