Provincial parliamentary secretary Malik Muhammad Ahmed Khan and his cousin have been arrested under anti-terrorist act for torturing the assistant election commissioner (AEC) Kasur Mohammad Abdullah.
Punjab Home Secretary informed to the Chief Election Commissioner former Justice Abdul Hameed Dogar at a meeting held here on Monday to review the arrangements for third phase of local bodies' (LB) elections.
Chief Election Commissioner, while taking serious notice of the incident, directed that strict action would be taken against all those who would tend to interfere in the election process. He said political parties would not be allowed to bribe the councillors, and to keep them in hotels or any specific buildings.
Inspector General of Police Punjab also informed the meeting that rangers have been called for the districts of Jhang, Kasur and Khushab for third phase of LB polls. He said the SP would be responsible to maintain law and order situation in his circle. A police officer with the rank of DSP would remain with district returning officer, while SHO would be with each polling officer during the third phase of LB elections.
Secretary to Chief Election Commissioner said about 250 European and American journalists would watch the third phase of the LB elections.
Among others, Chief Secretary, provincial election commissioner and secretary to Chief Election Commissioner also attended the meeting.
