The Central Board of Revenue (CBR) has started a countrywide exercise to monitor sales tax collection from retailers and ''value-added industries'', including iron and steel sector, in the second quarter (October-December) of 2005-06.
Sources said on Tuesday that CBR has taken several decisions to facilitate trade and industry and improve GST collection at the level of collectorates of sales tax.
It has been decided to timely process all pending references/queries, particularly those filed by President and Prime Minister''s Secretariats and National Assembly. The CBR has given deadline of October 8, 2005 to all Sales Tax Secretaries to dispose of pending receipts/applications etc.
The CBR has also asked the regional collectors to launch a campaign to educate the car dealers and retailers about the recently issued SROs, sales tax rulings and procedures.
As per another decision, the Central Registration Office (CRO), Islamabad, has speeded up processing of pending sales tax registration applications for issuance of new certificates.
The CBR has asked the regional offices to implement the "special procedure for collection and payment of sales tax on vehicles".
All recommendations made by the Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) Committees would be implemented on top priority. The CBR will also monitor the formation of ADR committees, recommendations and implementation of the orders. The Sales Tax Department has also started cleansing of database exercise. In this connection, sales tax registration numbers would be matched with the National Tax Numbers (NTNs) available with CBR computer wing.
