Former Amir of Jamaat-i-Islami Azad Kashmir Abdur Rashid Turrabi has said the resolution of the Kashmir issue was a pre-requisite to lasting peace and stability in the South Asian region.
Talking to a group of journalists here on Tuesday, the JI leader said that Indian and the United States want a status quo on Kashmir, which is not acceptable to Kashmiris who have rendered huge sacrifices for the freedom of their motherland.
Turrabi said that the zeal and passion of the Kashmiri Mujahideen cannot be hoodwinked by any so-called confidence building measures. The people of Kashmir cannot accept anything less than the freedom of Kashmir, he reiterated.
The former JI chief also criticised Pakistan for what he said a poor and apologetic posture on Kashmir. He added Pakistan has fallen into Indian trap by announcing several concessions to the latter.
