Sindh Government has conferred powers of Special Judicial Magistrate upon officers of all the district governments of the province under Section 144 Cr P C.
According to a notification of Home Department on Tuesday, all Executive District Officers (EDOs of Enterprises & Investment Promotion (E&IP), all DDOs (E&IP), all DDOs (Revenue), all DDOs (Law), all Mukhtiarkars (Revenue) and all Town Municipal Officers (TMOs) have been vested with Special Judicial Magistrate powers in pursuance of the recommendations of the Chief Justice of High Court of Sindh.
By exercising these powers, these officers will summarily try the offences under the Price Control and Prevention of Profiteering and Hoarding Act 1977 and Ehtram-e-Ramzan Ordinance 1981 for a period of 90 days with effect from 1st day of Holy Month of Ramzan 1426 (2005) AD.
THESE POWERS HAVE BEEN VESTED WITH THE FOLLOWING TERMS AND CONDITIONS:The officers so appointed shall be designated as Special Judicial Magistrate and will work under the direct control and supervision of the respective session judges and that after the expiry of 90 days period, pending cases, if any, will stand transferred to the normal respective courts who will take up the matter from the stage they were left.
