NWFP IG Muhammad Raffat Pasha has directed police high-ups to implement Election Commission Code of Conduct in its true essence during third phase of local bodies' elections and depute high ranking police officers as Incharge at all polling stations.
He said this while presiding over a meeting of high-ranking officers of Peshawar police in CPO on the other day. Chief Capital City Police Officer, SSP Peshawar, SP Investigation, SP Traffic, SP Security, SP Cantt, SP City and all ASPs and SDPOs largely attended the meeting.
The Police Chief strictly directed participants to fully implement the Election Commission's code of conduct and adopt foolproof security measures for that purpose. They were further directed to ban entry of irrelevant persons in the jurisdiction of polling stations within 300 meters.
They were also directed to strictly prohibit carrying and displaying of arms and provide full protection to the voters. It was also directed on the occasion that no one would be allowed to carry mobile phone with himself while using his vote.
The Police high-ups were also directed to provide police escort to the whole election process and remain on duty till peaceful end of election. CCPO was directed to depute SP Rank officer as Incharge on polling stations in Peshawar and personally supervise the whole process.
The meeting also reviewed law and order, and necessary instructions were issued to adopt stringent security measures to ensure peaceful Ramazan. The IGP directed the participants to adopt proactive policing method and take all possible steps for security of life, honour and property of general public.
The police chief made it clear that police officers along with subordinate staff should have to ensure their presence on duty point particularly during 'Iftar' and 'Taraveh time and directed for providing enhanced security to the faithful in every mosque. The police chief further directed crimes should not be tolerated in this holy month and those found involved in negligence of duty would be strictly taken to task.
The participants of the meeting were also directed to further tighten security at mosques, imambargahs, churches, diplomatic mission, and shopping centers. "Police have to be very active, alert and of course honest and should have to maintain sanctity of Ramazan as well as of their uniform, pointed the IGP. He also directed for ensuring smooth flow of traffic particularly during 'Iftar' time and discouraging the practice of rash driving. The IGP also directed for putting an effective halt to the street crimes and warned that concerned SHO and SDPOs would be held responsible for any untoward happenings.
