Third phase local government polls in four Hyderabad districts today

The Election Commission has finalised all arrangements to conduct third phase of local government elections for the slots of District Nazims, Taluka Nazims, and members for reserved seats in Zila and Taluka Councils of Hyderabad, Tando Allahyar, Tando Muhammad Khan, and Matiari districts on October 6 (today).
The polling staff along with required polling materials has been assigned at the polling stations with due security cover, where polling process will be carried out from 8 am to 4 pm and after its completion, the counting of votes will be started.
Three polling stations with three each separate polling booths for male and female voters have been established in all Talukas of Hyderabad, Tando Allahyar, Tando Muhammad Khan and Matiari districts.
According to election format, each voter of the electoral college will receive eight ballot papers and cast vote in favour of District Nazims, Taluka Nazims and candidates for reserved seats of women, peasants/workers, and minority in Zila and Taluka councils.
The polling staff will allow the voters to cast their votes after verification of their names in the list of electoral college and checking of their old or computerised national identity cards. The election campaign was over on Tuesday night.
The electoral college comprising Nazims, Naib-Nazims and councillors of 52 union councils of Hyderabad district having 676 members. However, three seats are still vacant in the district, therefore, 673 members will exercise their right of franchise on the polling day.
There is one-to-one contest between Javed Jabbar and Syed Fayyaz Ali Shah for Taluka Nazim Hyderabad City. In Taluka Latifabad, Sabir Hussain and Ghulam Mustafa are in the field for Taluka Nazim.
Three candidates namely Moula Bux Chandio, Noor Muhammad Shoro, and Muhammad Bux are contesting election for Qasimabad Taluka Nazim and for Taluka Nazim Hyderabad Rural, four candidates namely Khawand Bux Jahijo alias Ghulam Muhammad, Mir Shah Muhammad, Mir Sher Muhammad and Muhammad Thebo are in the field.
Besides, Nazims and Taluka Nazims, elections for 18 reserved seats for women and three each reserved seats for peasants/workers and minority in Zila Council Hyderabad, seven reserved seats for women and one each reserved seat for peasant/worker and minority in Taluka Council Hyderabad City, six reserved seats for women and one each reserved seat for peasant/worker and minority in Taluka Council Latifabad, four reserved seats for women and one each reserved seat for peasant/worker and minority in Taluka Council Hyderabad Rural and one each reserved seat for women, peasant/worker and minority in Taluka Council Qasimabad will also be held.
A total of 259 Nazims, Naib Nazims and councillors, including 80 women representatives of 20 Union Councils of Taluka Hyderabad city will exercise their right of franchise in three polling stations, set up with three polling booths each for male and female in Government High School near Circular Building, Risala Road, Hyderabad.
Some 219 Nazims, Naib Nazims and councillors, including 67 women representatives of 17 Union Councils of Taluka Latifabad will take part in the election process in three polling stations, set up with three polling booths each for male and female in the Public School, Hyderabad, at Latifabad Unit No-3.
At least 143 Nazims, Naib Nazims, and councillors, including 44 women representatives of 11 Union Councils of Taluka Hyderabad Rural will vote for the candidates in three polling stations, set up with three polling booths each for male and female in Local Bodies Rural Development Academy, Tando Jam, while 52 Nazims, Naib Nazims, councillors, including 16 women representatives of the four Union Councils of Taluka Qasimabad will exercise their right of franchise in three polling stations, set up with three polling booths each for male and female in the Government Degree Girls College, Qasimabad.
In Tando Allahyar, four candidates namely Abdul Sattar Bachani, Rahila Magsi, Imdad Ali, and Tasleem Pasha are in the field of District Nazim. According to the office of the Assistant Election Commission, Tando Allahyar, the electoral college of 19 union councils of the district consist of 247 members.
Three candidates namely Khair Muhammad Khokhar, Sajid Wahab Khanzada, and Salim Ahmed Bachani are contesting the election for Taluka Nazim, Tando Allahyar Taluka, while one on one contest will be held between Abdul Fayyaz and Ghulam Kumbhar for Taluka Nazim Chamber and Abdul Latif Mangrio and Mir Ghulam Muhammad for Taluka Nazim Jhando Mari.
There is no contest on reserved seats for women, peasant/worker and minority in Taluka Councils of Chamber and Jhando Mari Talukas as all the members have already been elected unopposed.
The Election Commission has set up nine polling stations, three each in Mono-Technical College, Tando Allahyar for the members of Tando Allahyar Taluka, Government Boys High School, Piyaro Lund for the members of Taluka Jhando Mari and at Government Boys Secondary School, Chamber for the members of Taluka Chamber.
In Tando Muhammad Khan, four candidates namely Mir Inayat Ali Khan Talpur, Syed Muhsin Shah Bukhari, Muhammad Amin Lakho, and Syed Irshad Hussain Shah are in the field of contest for District Nazim.
The Assistant Election Commissioner, Tando Muhammad Khan, Aijaz Anwar Chohan, informed that the electoral college of 16 union councils of the district consist of 208 members.
