Senate Chairman has Muhammadmian Soomro prorogued the session to express sympathy with the victims of earthquake that severely hit a number of cities in the country on Saturday morning.
Leader of the House, Wasim Sajjad assured the House that the government would adopt all possible measures and utilise its resources to effectively meet this emergency situation.
He said there is no complete information about the losses of life and property, however, the rescue teams are busy to ascertain the situation.
Wasim Sajjad said this is a natural calamity and urged the nation to be united to face this disaster.
Earlier, soon after the recitation from the Holy Quran, Opposition Leader in Senate, Raza Rabbani drew attention of the House about the earthquake.
On point of order, he said the government should start rescue operation by utilising its all resources and added there is a need of massive national mobilisation efforts to deal with such an emergency situation effectively.
Raza Rabbani said the earthquake, one of deadliest in the history of the country, jolted Federal Capital, Northern Areas, Rawalakot, Muzaffarabad, Bagh and other cities of country.
