The Leader of the Opposition in the National Assembly, Maulana Fazl-ur-Rehman on Saturday directed NWFP Chief Minister Mohammad Akram Durrani to make all arrangements for relief and rescue work in the province especially in the area of Hazara Division.
Talking to APP here on Saturday, he said: "Soon after the earthquake, I talked to the NWFP chief minister for all possible relief work in the province and also visited the area of Margalla Towers that collapsed this morning."
Responding to a question about the damage in various parts of NWFP, he said: "We have received information from various areas of Mansehra, Batagram, Balakot, and Garhi Habibullah and other localities regarding damage of houses".
Information of land-slides in some parts of Balakot and Batagram have also received. Maulana Fazl-ur-Rehman said the NWFP chief minister had called emergency meeting of senior officials, including the Relief Commissioner, Chief Secretary and Inspector General Police.
"I also talked to Islamabad IGP and senior officials present at the site of relief work to speed up rescue work and save lives of the residents who were trapped in the flats of Margallah Towers," he said, adding the NWFP chief minister had already declared emergency in the province and directed the administration of all public hospitals to make all arrangement to deal with the situation.
The Maulana also expressed his profound grief over the loss of lives and damage to property due to quake.
He also called upon the federal government to provide all resources and speed up rescue activities and provide best medical treatment to the injured.
