11 Oct, 2005

Sindh Ombudsman Yusuf Jamal has taken notice of reports that government pensioners are facing extreme hardships and even humiliation at the Treasury Office located in the city courts compound when trying to collect their pensions.
The Ombudsman observed that such hardships should not be faced by any senior citizen and especially by those who have rendered countless years of public service during their active careers.
In response, the Sindh chief secretary directed the Sindh finance secretary to take prompt necessary action in the matter with intimation to him and Ombudsman Sindh.
On Monday, two of the Ombudsman's advisors visited the Treasury Office and talked to male and female government pensioners. They also questioned a treasury officer, who informed that one-thirds of the office space had been set aside for utilisation by Sindh Election Committee and further complications were caused by a shortage of staff.
The advisors directed the treasury officer to compose a written list of necessities for the betterment of the office and submit the same to the chief secretary so that Ombudsman institution may follow up and ensure that dire needs are satisfied fully and in a timely manner.
