NGO prepares list of drugs needed in quake-hit areas

There is a shortage of around 66 emergency medicines and medical supplies to provide medical aid to the victims of Saturday's worst earthquake.
A non-governmental organisation, The Network for Consumer Protection, has prepared a list of emergency medicines and medical supplies required in the quake-affected areas.
The list has been prepared after collecting the requirement from different medical camps and hospitals in the disaster hit areas. It has now been sent to various rescue government and non-government donor organisations for procurement.
The NGO has urged individuals and organisations, who want to donate medicines to the hospitals and camps, should keep focus on these emergency medicines rather than donating unnecessary supplies.
The NGO has also written a letter to all the pharmaceutical companies to ensure these essential supplies to the markets so that the people who are already traumatised do not suffer any further.
It has advised that in Analgersics, injections Declofenac & Gel, Tramol, Valium, Metoclopramide, Nalbin, Magnopyrol, Paracetamol and in Antibiotics, injections Benzyl Penicillin, Ceftraxone, Cephradine, Flagyl, Gentamycine are required.
In emergency medicines, injections Tetanus Toxide (ATS), Dexamethasone (Decadron), Hydrocortisone (Solucortif), Adrenaline, Atropine, Dopamine & Dobutamine are needed.
To cater to the Trauma Management, Hydrogen Peroxide, Pyodine Solution, Spirit, Crepe bandages, Gauze Sticking, Sterile Bandage (Ray Band), N/S (1000) with infusion sets, Scissors, Surgical Blades Artery Forceps, Gatgut 1, 2/0, Needle Holders, Surgical Gloves, Silk Suture (1 & 2), Transamine injections, Plaster of Paris, Slabs and disposable gloves, wherein the areas of I/V Fluids, Ringer Lactate, N/S (1000 & 500), Dextrose Saline (5%), Hypertonics, Infusion Chambers, Hamacel and Dextrose water are urgently needed.
It is also advised that accessories like Catheters (all sizes), Chest Tube & underwater seal, NG tubes, Air way (all sizes), I/V cannulas (all sizes), drip sets, Xylocaine gel with nozzle, urine collecting bags, 5cc syringes/10cc syringes, 50cc central nozzle syringes, 50cc side nozzle syringes, Umbo gan, adhesive tapes, liquid paraffin, slin traction, tornique, and other drugs like insulin, ventolin tablets and solution ventolin are required.
In terms of orthopaedics implants, it is requested that hand drills, as many as possible, pneumatic drills, electric drills, drill bits 3.2mm, 3.5mm and 2.7mm should be sent in good quantity.
In external fixators like 4 Clamps 500, 6 Clamps 200, small/for forearm 200, K-Nail, Interlocking Nails with bottle, For Femur, For Tibia, For Humerus and instruments like DCP plating set two Nos. narrow, broad and small, small DCP-400, Narrow DCP and Broad DCP are required to be urgently sent to the affected areas, including hospitals of Rawalpindi, Islamabad and Jehlum where patients are being given treatment.
