THE RUPEE: rates move in narrow band

14 Oct, 2005

The rupee was unchanged in the open market on Thursday for buying and selling at 60.10 and 60.20, respectively. Market sources said that the rupee-dollar parity moved slightly due to a bit improvement in the supply of dollar.
They expect that the rupee would be able to face rising of dollar demand by the corporate sector.
While, the rupee depreciated versus the euro, shedding 30 paisa for buying at Rs 71.70 and 20 paisa on the selling side at Rs 71.80, respectively.
The dollar maintained its higher trend versus the leading currencies on the expectations about the hike in the US interest rates, dealers said.
Supply was enough to meet the market requirements, marketmen said.
