Death toll climbs to 11,593 in NWFP

The death toll in October 8 devastating earthquake on Thursday climbed to 11,593 while the number of injured people rose to 20637 in NWFP, district administration and local police said.
According to an official of the Provincial Crisis Management Centre, established by the NWFP government at the Home & Tribal Affairs Department, Mansehra district is the worst affected area, where 6641 people have died and 10926 injured, while in Battagram district 3850 died and 7250 injured.
In Shangla the death toll has been increased to 302 from 289 and injured from 327 to 423. Similarly, in Abbottabad the number of injured people increased to 1730 from 830 on Wednesday. In Kohistan number of the death increased to 265 from 163. The number of casualties in districts Swat, Peshawar, Bunner, Charsadda, Mardan and Nowshera have also registered increased.
According to initial assessment made by the military in the affected districts of Mansehra, Kohistan, Shangla, Battagram and Abbottabad, Allai of Battagram district was the worst affected area where damage has been reported 70 percent.
The towns of Garhi Habibullah (Mansehra) and Jabori of Battagram have suffered 50 and 40 percent damage each.
The rescue and relief operation in the affected areas was in full-swing, as the teams of China, France, Japan, Iran, United Arab Emirates (UAE) and Switzerland have been making efforts. UAE has established a 100-bed field hospital at Mansehra to help the victims.
The total population of the earthquake-hit five districts was 3247916, including 1152839 of Mansehra and 472570 in Kohistan.
Meanwhile, the third consignment of relief goods, comprising seven trucks loaded with edible items, medicines, tents, blankets, pillows, jackets and other garments left Peshawar under the aegis of NWFP Governor's Relief Cell on Wednesday night. A good volume of umbrellas, lanterns, debris removal items and a big quantity of kerosene oil also included in a consignment.
The consignment donated by Dubai-based Alhaj Group; whose owner Qabal Sher, hailing from Khyber Agency, was also present on the occasion. He said that their group had provided 80,000 litres kerosene oil, 5000 tents and medicines worth Rs 0.5 million for the earthquake-affected people.
Entire relief goods in 26 trucks, dispatched by the Governor's Relief Cell for the earthquake-affected people, have reached.
On Wednesday the NWFP Governor's Relief Cell dispatched eleven trucks full of relief items to Allai, Mansehra and Shangla areas. Besides, food, water, milk, blankets, clothes and other items have been sent to the affected people of Hazara division.
Efforts are underway to take the relief items to the inaccessible and worst hit areas of Allai, Batagram and Garhi Habibullah.
Senior officials of the Governor's Secretariat are co-ordinating to ensure the distribution of donation and relief goods transparent.
Special arrangements have been made with Army Aviation for prompt delivery of the emergency goods.
On Tuesday, the cell had sent eight trucks load of relief items to the affected areas. Shangla has been made the base for swift transportation of goods to inaccessible areas of Shangla and Hazara division where the marooned people are desperately awaiting food and other items.
The Health Directorate of Fata had earlier sent three mobile hospitals fully equipped with state-of-the-art facilities along with doctors, paramedics and medicines worth Rs 5 million to help the disaster-hit people.
Similarly, arrangements are underway to send four ambulances along with medical staff and medicines worth Rs five million to Mansehra, Shangla and other affected areas.
