US Consul General visits KICT

A delegation of United States officials led by US Consul General in Karachi, Ms Mary H. Witt visited Karachi International Container Terminal (KICT). Chief Executive Officer KICT, Khurram S. Abbas received the Consul General. Director of Pakistan/Bangladesh Affairs, US State Department, Stephen C. Engelken accompanied Consul General Ms Witt.
Khurram S. Abbas briefed the US team on the operations of KICT, said a news release of KICT here on Thursday. He also highlighted the various trade facilitation projects being executed by KICT in collaboration with other stakeholder, particularly the security and automated cargo clearance initiatives to ensure secure and expeditious handling of container traffic at KICT.
KICT was Pakistan's leading container terminal. Located within the Karachi Port, a natural deep-water harbour west of the Indus Delta on the Arabian Sea, KICT had been operating since 1998. It comprised two berths and modern container handling equipment.
KICT is a member of the Hutchison Port Holdings Group, a wholly-owned subsidiary of multinational conglomerate Hutchison Whampoa Limited. HPH was the world's leading port investor, developer and operator with interests in 19 countries throughout Asia, Middle East, Africa, Europe and Americas. Today, HPH operates in total of 40 ports together with a number of transportation related service companies, Abbas said.
