US stocks rose on Friday, helped by falling crude prices and General Electric Co's strong profit, which rekindled hopes for improved corporate earnings.
Shares of GE, a Dow component, rose 0.6 percent to $34.24 on the New York Stock Exchange. The company, generally considered a barometer of US economy's strength, reported a 15 percent jump in third-quarter profit, matching analysts' estimates.
The Dow Jones industrial average was up 23 points, or 0.22 percent, at 10,238.85. The Standard & Poor's 500 Index was up 3.89 points, or 0.33 percent, at 1,180.67. The technology-laced Nasdaq Composite Index was up 4.14 points, or 0.20 percent, at 2,051.36.
