Solar power to be provided in tentage, relief camps

The Renewable Energy Development Board will provide solar electricity to all tentage, relief camps and field hospitals set up by armed forces in far-flung areas for earthquake victims where electricity is not available.
Chairman, Renewable Energy Development Board, Air Marshal Shahid Hamid (Retd), said in the first phase, solar lamps and solar cookers have been supplied to relief camps established at Jhal Garhi, Malot village of Bagh and adjoining areas of Balakot.
He said under the directives of President Pervez Musharraf and Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz, work to utilise alternative energy resources on emergency basis had been started in the earthquake stricken areas of Azad Kashmir and NWFP. Shahid Hamid said that as many as 50 solar lamps and 10 solar cookers will be handed over to armed forces daily aimed at making relief efforts easier.
He said the secretary Cabinet Division has also assured his co-operation and emergency fund for this campaign.
