US heavy machinery arrives

18 Oct, 2005

The first shipment from United States carrying heavy machinery and relieve goods arrived at Karachi Port on Monday. Two ships arrived here and discharged the cargo announced by the US Government to help Pakistan in relief and rescue work in earthquake-hit northern parts of the country.
Karachi Port Trust (KPT) sources told Business Recorder that a Roll-on and Roll-off (Ro-Ro), mv Northern Lights vessel delivered trucks, excavators and other earth moving heavy equipment at Karachi Port on priority basis at Berth no 4, East Wharf.
Another ship, mv Pearl Harbour, carrying relief goods, was currently at the Outer Anchorage and would berth on Tuesday. Both vessels brought more than 10 dump trucks, cargo trucks, excavators, one water purifier unit, power generators and other equipment, which was handed over to the Pakistan government.
Sources said that the ship was handled on priority basis at the port and unloading of equipment was completed in the shortest possible time. KPT waived off all its port charges from the ship.
