World Bank has agreed to provide a soft loan of Rs4.7 billion to the provincial government for Jinnah Barrage Rehabilitation Project, situated in District Mianwali on Indus River.
"The Project would commence from 2007, as it would take one year for the completion of feasibility/design detail and hence would be completed in three years," the WB officials told PPI after having detailed meetings with the provincial authorities here on Monday.
The World Bank delegation comprising Usman Qamar, Paul Martin, Warren Water, Palmiery, Uzma Sadaf, Anwar Ali Bhatti, Shuaoughu, Willium Smith, Ghulam Ali and Waqar Zikria was headed by Xiaoki Li. They also met with P&D Chairman Sibrain Fazal Haleem and Secretary Irrigation Arif Nadeem.
According to details, the project envisages the rehabilitation, computerisation of barrage''s manual gates, provision of subsidiary weir at a distance of about 800 ft downstream of the barrage weir to provide adequate water cushion for dissipation of energy through hydraulic jump and its downstream floor repair.
