Conservancy in CBF area

19 Oct, 2005

Citizens residing in various blocks of Gulistan-e-Jouhar, Karachi, pay 'Conservancy' Tax to the Cantonment Board Faisal (CBF) but do not get regular and proper service of conservancy in the area.
Despite various reports to Cantonment Board Faisal, neither any action is taken, nor an improvement is visible so far.
There is no arrangement of 'Garbage Containers'. As a result, residents have to throw garbage on the service road, main road and besides their residential location.
Only 2-3 garbage containers have been fixed on the green belt between block-17 and 18 and around Johar Chorangi, which always remain filled with garbage stock. The cleaning labour neither cleans the area properly nor lifts the entire stock of garbage.
The trucks of Cantonment Board Faisal lift the garbage on alternate days of the week instead of daily, as a result heaps of garbage remain un-cleaned and scattered all over the green belt and service road.
The so-called Green Belt covered with-garbage amid roads is creating a polluted environment. No chemical spraying has been carried-out for long giving rise to crawling insects and diseases due to dirtiness in the area.
Further, the ground space at the green belt on which the garbage container has been fabricated, is pressed deep and has acquired a topsy-turvy shape on account of the weight of garbage.
It requires immediate filling and levelling, besides the repair of its damaged boundaries of green belt.
Encroachments are seen everywhere on the service road and main road in Blocks-17 to 20 in Gulistan-e-Jouhar.
Few dishonest and corrupt functionaries of the concerned offices, including the Cantonment Board Faisal, are themselves patronising the encroachments against the payment of fixed extortions, reported by encroachers.
They are fearless in the illegal possession of large spaces on road and service roads and also making the area more dirty and unhygienic by throng rotten vegetable and fruits all around.
The Director, Military Lands and Cantonments and Executive Officer (CBF) Karachi are requested to take positive measures to maintain proper cleanliness in the area, removal of encroachments and ensure services in return of the tax being paid by the residents.
