Bangladesh suspends poultry imports

20 Oct, 2005

Bangladesh has banned the import of poultry products from four countries with confirmed or suspected cases of bird flu as a precautionary measure, officials said Wednesday.
"The government has banned poultry imports from Turkey, Romania, Greece and Russia following the detection of bird flu in these countries," Subodh Chandra Dhali, a spokesman for the livestock and fisheries ministry, told AFP.
Bangladesh has now banned poultry imports from 16 countries.
The government suspended imports from Cambodia, China, Indonesia, Laos and North Korea in July and last year a similar ban was imposed on poultry products from Japan, Malaysia, Pakistan, South Korea, Taiwan, Thailand and Vietnam.
