Patty Schnyder ended the run of Serb teenager Ana Ivanovic to reach the final of the 1.3-million-dollar Zurich Open here on Saturday.
The Swiss left-hander won 6-2, 6-1 and the number six seed will now face either top seed Lindsay Davenport or seventh seed Anastasia Myskina in the final.
It was Schnyder's third easy victory against Ivanovic in their three meetings but it took several games before she managed to gain the upper hand.
Schnyder hit a forehand winner off a return to save a break point when down 2-1, but then won her third break point in a lengthy fifth game to lead 3-2.
After holding to love, Schnyder then won a second break for 5-2 when Ivanovic hit a crosscourt backhand volley wide.
Ivanovic could hardly keep the ball in court at times in the second set, making a careless backhand error to fall behind 1-0, before double-faulting to give Schnyder another break for 3-0.
