Australian Alicia Molik has ruled out playing in January's Australian Open but has made no decision about quitting tennis altogether, her management said on Saturday.
The former world No 8 has been under stress from a persistent chronic viral condition which has diminished her enjoyment of the sport.
There was speculation Friday that the 24-year-old was on the verge of quitting tennis, but her agent said Molik had no intention of retiring at this stage.
Molik made a tearful first-round exit in defence of her Zurich Open title earlier this week.
She was forced to retire while trailing Jelena Jankovic 6-3 4-2 because of the ear infection that has dogged her since April.
