Delay in board formation results in FCS mismanagement

26 Oct, 2005

The delay in formation of Fishermen Co-operative Society's board has aggravated the conditions, resulting in the total collapse of administration and mismanagement in the society.
It may be recalled that the election of directors of FCS was held in August 2004, however, the formation of board of FCS could not be done so far.
According to by-laws of FCS, the board of the society comes into existence on the day of election and election of chairman and vice-chairman comes on the same day, according to directors of FCS.
However, 14 months have passed since the election of directors but the formation of the board has yet to come, which has caused serious problems to run the affairs of the society for the betterment of fishermen.
The state of administration of society is in tatters with the rampant corruption everywhere. Another chronic problem is frequent outage of power, which is causing serious problems due to absence of any alternate system of power.
This situation is also humiliating for employees of the society as market people subject them to maltreatment. The sanitary condition is also getting worse.
It is worth mentioning that the provincial government had formed a three-member managing committee to run the affairs of the society, however, the performance of this committee is also much below the mark.
According to directors of FCS, the managing committee does not hold regular meetings with them to discuss the issues of fishermen community.
They held the Co-operative Department Sindh responsible for all this mismanagement and appealed to the authorities concerned to form the board immediately in the larger interest of fishermen.
