Small growers to be encouraged to cultivate vegetables and oilseeds

Small growers would be encouraged to cultivate cash crops-vegetables and oilseeds to improve their economic conditions. This was stated by Ghulam Hussain Leghari, EDO Agriculture Department Jamshoro district, while addressing to the growers and field staff on the occasion of village level seminar near Jamshoro.
He said majority of farmers in Pakistan falls in category of small substance farmers, who rarely practising commercial-agriculture because they produce barely enough for their own consumption. It was therefore, imperative to bring a change in the small farmers to cultivate major crops and adopt cultivation of cash crop such as vegetables, oilseeds, pulses and chillies to improve their economic conditions without having impact of poor water availability.
He said efforts would be made to provide them training on modern methods of cultivation use of fertiliser, pesticides and farm management.
The EDO further told to growers to save their valuable irrigation water by improving their watercourses under the newly introduced national programme for improving watercourses. He further said that interested growers would be facilitated.
For this purpose, he said, five field teams of NPIW were already appointed at Kotri, Thana Bula Khan, Sann, Sehwan and Bhan Saeedabad to receive the application from growers and register their water user associations.
A large number of growers and field staff of agriculture extension attended the seminar on vegetable crop held at Bhan Saeedabad town of taluka Sehwan.
