Wheat targets fixed

The Punjab government has fixed targets for wheat sowing and production; said sources in the Ministry of Food and Agriculture here on Wednesday.
Talking to APP here, the sources said wheat crop would be cultivated on an area of 15.82 million acres and expected production from the crop is 17.66 million tonnes. The average per acre yield target has been set at 29.89 maunds.
Last year wheat was sown on 15.68 million acres and the output was recorded at 17.35 million tonnes, with the average per acre yield recorded at 29.70 maunds. The output had crossed the target in all areas-sowing, production and per acre yield.
The sources said the federal government has re-fixed the support price of the golden grain from Rs 400 to Rs 415 per 40 kg.
Federal agriculture committee (FAC) has fixed the wheat sowing target at 8.4 million hectares and production target at 22 million tonnes at the national level, they added.
