Extended demand was seen by the mills in the cotton market on Thursday to cover the forward buying ahead of the Eid-ul-fitr holidays, dealers said. The official spot rate remained unchanged at Rs 2350, without upcountry expenses.
In the ready business, the cotton prices were at Rs 2250-2350 in Sindh and in Punjab unchanged at Rs 2375-2400. Phutti price in Sindh was slightly lower at Rs 1025-1100, in Punjab at Rs 1175-1125, dealers said.
Market sources said that the Trading Corporation of Pakistan (TCP) in its latest tender offered price to the exporters, ranging from 45.50 to 46.50 cent per lb.
In the meantime, mills did not show any reluctance, stuck new deals on apprehension of tight supplies in the coming days, they said.
The New York Board of Trade's key December cotton contract slipped 0.47 cent to end at 54.76 cents a lb., moving from 54.25 to 55 cents. It was an inside day since the range was within on Tuesday's 54.10 to 55.34 cents band. March fell 0.29 cent to 56.90 cents. Back months declined from 0.20 to 0.95 cent.
FOLLOWING DEALS WERE REPORTED: 400 bales of cotton from Khanpur at Rs 2375, 200 bales from Sakrand at Rs 2335, 400 bales from Shahpur Chakar at Rs 2310, 1000 bales from Rahimyar Khan at Rs 2400, 1000 bales from Khanewal at Rs 2400, 400 bales from Lodhran at Rs 2400 and 2000 bales from Choti at the same rate.
