The Central Board of Revenue (CBR) has constituted a committee to identify shortcomings in the implementation of the Income Tax Management System (ITMS) at the Large Taxpayers Unit (LTUs) and Medium Taxpayer Units (MTUs).
The ITMS is a software used for running ''income tax office'' and performing various functions, including acceptance of returns, issuance of letters/notices, processing of returns and invoking provisions of Income Tax Ordinance, 2001.
The committee headed by CBR Taxpayer Education and Facilitation Member Habib Fakhurddin would visit LTUs and MTUs after Eid-ul-Fitr to identify flaws in the system, if any.
Official sources told Business Recorder on Thursday that the CBR is using computer technology to end manual processing of returns and minimise interaction between the tax collectors and taxpayers.
In this regard, the ITMS is installed at LTUs and MTUs so that the income tax returns could be processed in minimum possible time. However, there are reports that the system is not functioning properly at some tax offices. Thus, there is a need to identify shortcomings in the system to make it user-friendly.
The committee, constituted on the directive of the Board-in-Council, would also investigate any practical problems being faced by the user of the system.
