Pakistan has decided to purchase airborne radar system from Sweden. Deputy Director of the ISPR Air Commodore Sarfraz of Pakistan Air Force said that the decisions to purchase airborne radar system from Sweden have been concluded now.
But details have not yet reached us, he told while talking to BBC in this regard.
Responding to a question, he further said that Airborne Radar is early detection system. "It will be for the detection of incoming planes", he elaborated.
Pakistan is acquiring such aircraft from Sweden as will be able to warn in advance against incoming aircrafts. These aircrafts will also be to keep vigilance on the area. The deal with Sweden is worth nearly one billion dollars. The aircraft will be provided by the company called SAAD. Another company known as Airocson will be responsible for the communication system in these aircrafts, the report added.
Meanwhile, a defence analyst Ayesha commenting on the deal told BBC that it will benefit Pakistan with respect to defence, because the air Eye Radars of the Aircson can watch very far.
She said the negotiations began in last July. At the time it was the point of view that Pakistan needed this system for its defence. SAAB 2000 aircraft will be used as a plataform. Aricson radars will be installed on these aircrafts. They are able to watch the deployment of the enemy troops across the border.
"Thus there is its need from the defence point of view", she pointed out.
"Now only the mutual negotiations between the two governments have been completed. It will take one to one and a half-year after the signing of MoU for its delivery, she informed. "Therefore, it will serve no purpose in the present situation".
The Pakistani defence analyst said that it has advantage from defence point of view.
