Protesters block French-Italian railway

Some 1,000 demonstrators blocked a railway connecting Turin in northern Italy with the French city of Lyon on Monday, causing transport disruption as they protested against a planned high-speed rail link.
The protests, which were focused on the environmental impact of the new service, led to clashes with police, according to reports from Italy's Green party, which also asked Interior Minister Giuseppe Pisanu to intervene.
