MGE wheat lower

02 Nov, 2005

Minneapolis Grain Exchange spring wheat futures closed lower on Monday, following declines in the Kansas City wheat market, traders said.
The unwinding of inter-market spreads also weighed on values, with traders selling Minneapolis wheat against Chicago after MGE gained against Chicago last week.
MGE December wheat closed down 2-3/4 cents at $3.72-1/2 per bushel after finding support at the day's low of $3.69, a double-bottom on the contract's chart.
Deferred months ended down 2 to 4-1/4 cents. Volume was light, estimated by the exchange at 3,525 contracts, down from 4,704 on Friday.
Weekend export business was quiet, and traders were disappointed by the size of Egypt's weekend purchase of Australian wheat and US. Egypt on Saturday bought 120,000 tonnes of wheat for shipment in December, including 60,000 tonnes of US soft white wheat and 60,000 tonnes of Australian hard wheat.
The US Department of Agriculture reported weekly export inspections of US wheat at 21.4 million bushels.
