Begum Laila Sarfraz has been nominated as the new president of All Pakistan Women's Association (APWA). A spokesperson of the organisation said here Wednesday that she had already assumed her responsibilities.
Meanwhile, APWA is collecting donations towards the President's Relief Fund for the earthquake victims. So far a sum of Rs 1.4 million has been raised by the organisation's branches in the country as well as from the UK and North America.
To collect funds for the earthquake victims, APWA is organising a `Qawali' on November 10 at 7 pm at its headquarter on Garden Road here. Renowned Qawal Amjad Sabri would perform on the occasion, the spokesperson added.
The spokesperson said that APWA was now gearing up efforts towards the rehabilitation of the earthquake affectees and added that the organisation intended to build houses and schools in Muzaffarabad as well as a maternity wing there.
