Nine gamblers, two drug traffickers held

In a surprise raid on a notorious gambling den, police caught nine accused red handed besides recovering the stake money and the gambling equipment from the scene, police said here on Wednesday.
Deputy Superintendent of Police Mirpur Raja Irfan Salim said that raiding party stormed into notorious gambling den at Rex Cinema in the city and nabbed all nine gamblers besides recovering and confiscating the stake money of Rs 36,870/- and the gambling equipment from the scene.
The case has been registered by Thothal Police Station against the criminals and further investigations are in progress, DSP said.
The police official said that in another surprise raid on a narcotics den, police recovered huge quantity of illicit liquor and charas besides arresting two criminals, including the ring leader, an ex police official, and his brother for indulging running the den.
Irfan Salim said that police made surprise raid on the narcotics den at thickly populated Bohar Colony area and recovered 1500 grams of charas and 30 bottles of liquor from the possession of Tabeer Shah, a sacked employee of Police Department and his brother Bashir Shah r/o the same locality.
The police also impounded a Toyota Corrola Saloon car (No AJK -104 Mirpur) belonging to the outlaws, he said.
Police have registered a case against the criminals under Section 3/4 (Prevention of Narcotics Act) in Thothal Police station and started investigations.
