NWFP Governor Khalil-ur-Rehman, while conceding to the fact that there exists every possibility of making successful efforts to bring socio-economic uplift of the people of Nowshera district, stressed the need for initiating concrete measures to exploit all available for the repaid development of the area.
Talking to newly-elected District Nazim Daud Khattak, who called on him, at the Governor's House here on Wednesday, he especially mentioned the industrial sector, saying though accelerated industrialisation was witnessed in this area during the early days of Independence and even today there exists every opportunity in this respect. He said this important sector has been experiencing economic stagnation for quite some time mainly because of local problems.
The governor expressed the confidence that the new District Government would focus on this vital sector of economic wellbeing of the people and spare no efforts in facilitating the private sector not only to revive the sick industrial units but also to encourage the new entrepreneurship for this purpose.
He stressed the need for proper training of the labour community and skill development as well as promotion of congenial working environment.
Referring to the social sector, the governor particularly mentioned the provision of clean potable water to the people, saying that President General Pervez Musharraf has set the target of ensuring access of every citizen to this basic need of life by 2007 and hoped that respective district governments would give due weightage to this subject.
Fortunately, he said, because of unique geographical position this demand could be materialised comparatively in a easier way by utilising water from the nearby Kabul River and through installation of filter plants.
The governor also expressed concern over the lack of educational facilities especially in the higher level and conceded to a point that tremendous efforts have to be made to increase the existing number of degree colleges especially for girls.
He also stressed the need for judicious utilisation of the resources, saying the people of the area must avail opportunities of development.
MESSAGE on EIDUL FITR: The NWFP governor has said that Islam is the religion of Nature, which enjoins us to demonstrate tolerance, accommodation and sacrifice in dealing with each other.
In a message of felicitation on the eve of Eidul Fitr, issued here on Thursday, the governor said that the advent of "Eid", after the passage of Ramzanal Mubarak is not only the practical precedence of this spirit but it also provides an opportunity to offer thanks to Allah Almighty.
Khalil-ur-Rehman has also referred to the situation, emerged in the wake of recent earthquake in the country, and said that though the people of Pakistan have set an unmatchable and rare example of fraternity and affection to serve the quake-hit people in this hour of need.
He has also expressed the confidence that the countrymen would also remember their brethren in distress on Eid and would enable them to share their happiness too.
