US Treasury Secretary John Snow arrived in India Sunday ahead of four days of meetings with executives and officials to strengthen economic ties, a spokesman said.
Snow arrived in India's financial capital of Mumbai and was scheduled to visit the National Stock Exchange and other financial operations on Monday and Tuesday before heading to New Delhi Wednesday.
"This is a long-planned visit. The focus would be on broadening and strengthening economic relations," said US embassy spokesman David Kennedy.
In New Delhi Snow will hold talks with Finance Minister Palaniappan Chidambaram and other senior government officials and press for easier rules for US companies to invest in India.
It is Snow's first visit to India as treausry secretary and follows a July agreement between the two countries to build on a strategic partnership ranging from military co-operation to sales of civilian nuclear equipment.
Kenneday said Snow might sign some co-operation agreements in New Delhi but did not give details.
