CBR informed: LTU Karachi unable to handle additional cases

07 Nov, 2005

Large Taxpayer Unit (LTU), Karachi has conveyed to the Central Board of Revenue (CBR) that it has not enough workforce to handle additional cases falling in the jurisdiction of other commissionerates.
Sources told Business Recorder on Sunday that the Commissioner Conference has taken the decision to transfer additional income tax cases to the LTU, Karachi. However, the LTU has informed the CBR that the position of handling cases at the LTU is quite different. The Enforcement and Collection Division, LTU is over-burdened due to the excessive amount of work and few officers cannot take the additional load without increase in human resource and other facilities. The same situation prevails in other divisions of the LTU except the Audit Division where the number of persons appears to be in excess.
The CBR has to transfer the services of one Inspecting Additional Commissioner of Income Tax and two taxation officers to the Enforcement and Collection Division to tackle the increasing work load due to monitoring of withholding tax, exemption certificates and timely issuance of refunds and other miscellaneous work, LTU added.
