Lahorites celebrate Eid with austerity

Eid-ul-Fitr, like other parts of the country, was celebrated in Lahore on Friday with austerity and simplicity in view of the earthquake devastation in Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) and NWFP.
Congregation of faithful to offer 'Namaz-e-Eid' were held at thousands of mosques, open places and parks in the city. Biggest congregation was held at historic Badshahi mosque where thousands of people offered their prayers.
Governor Punjab, Lieutenant General Khalid Maqbool (r) offered his prayers at the same place too where Director Idara-e-Muarifia Islamia, Dr Mahmood Ul Hassan led the Eid prayers.
Special prayers were also offered for the eternal peace of those who were killed in this earthquake and for the early recovery of those who sustained injuries.
Governor Khalid Maqbool, Chief Secretary Punjab Salman Siddique, Secretary Auqaf Khawaja Muhammad Tariq and DCO Lahore and other government representatives also exchanged Eid greetings with faithful on this occasion.
Meanwhile, the Punjab Chief Minister, Chaudhry Parvez Ellahi offered his Eid prayers at his native town Gujrat.
Other major congregations were held at Masjid Data Darbar, Masjid Wazir Khan, Masjid Sheranwala Gate, Jamia Minhaj-ul-Quran, Jamia Mansoora, Jamia Nila Gumbad and Masjid-e-Shohda.
Almost in all the mosques and Eid congregations, appeals were also made to the masses to extend more and more donations towards the relief funds for the earthquake victims to ensure their early rehabilitation.
Governor Khalid Maqbool also visited the services hospital Lahore on Eid Day. He met injured admitted in the orthopedic ward of the hospital and presented them Eid gifts.
People also visited graveyards after Eid prayers to offer Fateha for the eternal peace of their beloved ones who were no more in this world. On the Eid the people also thronged Sweet Shops, sent sweets and specially designed Eid cakes to their near and dear ones.
