PMA Punjab starts second phase of relief activities

Pakistan Medical Association (PMA) Punjab, Human Care Trust, UK and Hilal-e-Ahmer (UAE) have started second phase of rehabilitation in the quake-hit areas of the country.
President PMA Punjab, Dr Muhammad Ali, Chief Relief Operation Dr Saeed Elahi, in a joint statement issued her on Wednesday, said that the team had started its work under the supervision of surgeon Dr Ashraf Chohan near Muzaffarabad and adjoining areas.
Dr Saeed Elahi maintained that relief activities continued during the Eid holidays and the doctors had spent Eid days with the survivors and also distributed Eid gifts.
"Human Care Trust UK has signed a MoU for continuous support of manpower and equipment. They have served in far-flung areas through helicopters. Our new team of 20 surgeons and physicians is ready and we will continuously support these areas for coming 2-3 months," he added.
Dr Masood Akhtar Shaikh said now they had to recollect the tents, mobile operation theatres, field operation theatres and other heavy machinery/equipment used in this operation to be utilised in future. He also underlined the need to formulate a national disaster policy.
