Chief Justice of Pakistan, Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry along with other judges of the apex court on Sunday visited the earthquake-hit areas of Azad Kashmir and NWFP to express solidarity with the affected people.
Justice Javed Iqbal, Justice Abdul Hameed Dogar, Justice Muhammad Nawaz Abbasi, Justice Hamid Ali Mine and other judges of the Supreme Court and Dr Faqir Hussain, Registrar Supreme Court were accompanied the Chief Justice of Pakistan.
The purpose of the visit was to extend sympathies to the affected people and have an assessment of the material damage caused in general and to judicial infrastructure in particular and further to evaluate the relief and rehabilitation measures being taken.
The delegation called on the President and the Prime Minister of Azad Kashmir to express condolences on behalf of Pakistan Judiciary.
The AJ&K Chief Secretary gave briefing to show the statistics of the dead, injured, material losses and also explained the rehabilitation measures taken by the civil and military administration.
The delegation also visited the Supreme Court and High Court of AJ&K and were briefed by the Chief Justice of Azad Kashmir on loss of lives and damages to the Court buildings in the area.
The Chief Justice of Pakistan offered condolences and expressed sympathy and support for the judiciary.
